The general purpose of the Lake Winnipeg Indigenous Commercial Fishers Inc. is to address priority interests, issues, and concerns of the Lake Winnipeg Indigenous Commercial Fishers through the coordination of combined efforts, legal guidance and local public and governmental supports.
This will be fulfilled by:
- Exercising our inherent rights to our fisheries resources.
- Utilizing our traditional knowledge along with science to determine decisions regarding health of the lake and the fishery.
- Ensuring fairness and equality; every qualifying member within the Board mandate has a voice.
- Working together with the various levels of government to achieve our goals.
- Working to develop strong, sustainable, environmentally healthy fishery areas.
- Working to ensure access and participation to fishing areas and markets.
- Ensuring compliance with any funding agreements and commitments entered into
