Board of Directors
The Board consists of Indigenous Lake Winnipeg commercial fishers, or as deemed by the Board of Directors. The Board Members will consist of the following:
- The Board Chairperson, Vice-Chair, and Secretary Treasurer (Board Executive)
- One President representative from each of the Lake Winnipeg Indigenous commercial fishing areas. The Vice-President in each area will act as an alternate.
- The Chief or Council member(s) from each Lake Winnipeg Indigenous commercial fishing areas can attend and act as assigned representative in the absence of the President or Vice-President.
- All Chiefs and/or Council Members in each Lake Winnipeg Indigenous commercial fishing areas will be ex-officio members at Board meetings.
* Various elder representatives shall be in attendance at Board meetings in addition to invited guests and speakers. Should an existing Board Member’s position of the President/Chair change in their local community, that individual will represent the respective community at the Board table.
Involved Communities
All communities around Lake Winnipeg, including the commercial fishers and the industry will be included at various points and levels of the Board’s Fishery Improvement Projects strategic workplan of the Indigenous Lake Winnipeg Commercial Fishers Inc. (the Board), beginning with Phase 1 – pre-assessment process, which among other tasks, will include consultations to; build capacity and relationships, continue open dialogue, engage in and maintain communications, and to collect the necessary data integral to pre-assessment process and the goals and objectives of the Board.
